The Negroamaro variety is, together with Primitivo, the native Salento grape par excellence. Its presence in Salento, albeit with different names depending on the areas and countries, is documented since 1800: the hot – arid climate and the clayey and calcareous soil create the perfect environment for the adaptation of this vine that is usually bred according to the traditional Apulian sapling (or espalier for younger plants).
The bunch is medium, truncated conical, short, tight. The grape is medium, obovoidal in shape with thick and consistent skin, black-violet in color, juicy and sweet pulp.
Negroamaro has a ruby red color, which over the years takes on garnet shades and intense fruity and floral aromas, with spicy and toasted notes if aged in wood.
